Johnny Cash and Party Songs

On July 25, shortly after he was six MTV Video Music Awards for his portrayal of Nine Inch Nails song Hurt was nominated Johnny Cash spoke with Party Songs  TIME Lev Grossman
Why did you decide to covern Hurt this Beatles Albums  song?
It 'was an idea [producer] Rick Rubin. We stayed for one song we did find an influence felt. Found them, and asked me what I thought. I said: "I think it's probably the best anti-drug song I ever heard, but I do not think that for me." And he said, "Why?" I said: "Why is not my style, is not the way I do." And he said: "And if it were so?" And I said, "Well, I could try." So I went out and captured them. When I heard, I felt it was okay.
How do you feel about the conversion of a song as an industrial metal song by Johnny Cash Hurt go?
I just want down and do it until I felt like Beatles Albums I was doing it with emotion. I probably sang the song 100 times before going in and took because I had for me.
It feels as if he had written to the end?
It 'a song I have written. In the '60s, I think I could have written something.
Do not you think that rock and country as two different things?
No, no, I never thought it would. I do not I can put in a box or basket, when I work. I'm really trying to prove that there must be no class, you stay in Beatles Albums   Party Songs the game, you can go. You can touch the other, in the sense that he will not listen, if you try to maintain.
Do you think that as a Christian artist?
I am an artist who is a Christian. I am not a Christian artist.
The man in black - this is really who you are?
I was dressed in black almost from the beginning. I'm comfortable in black. I felt like I was black looked good on stage, was attractive, so I always all the time. And then in 1969 I did a song called Man in Black, in which I pointed out that there are a lot of wrong things in my country, a lot of hypocrisy, the Vietnam War, wrote all that, you know, that would allow Party Songs these things to be corrected if we were by the people, and one of those people is me. And I point the finger at me: if you see me, I'll be the man in black, one of those responsible. And this is my kind of standard bearer, the song. And I've  Top 100 Songs of All Time  worn the jacket since.
Do you think the same way about this country?
Yeah. Uh-huh.
Have you seen the news?
Yes, quite.
Do you feel pessimistic about the way things are going?
I only wish we would ... I wish we would ... mmm. Get the latest on this issue, Lev.
What are you working on?
